Research
Our research focuses on the areas of postural control, aging, and movement disorders. Specifically, our work has focused on:
- Identification of risk factors for injury or disability during the performance of goal-directed movements,
- Exploration of speed versus accuracy tradeoffs in whole body movement control,
- Determination of behavioral and neural mechanisms underlying the breakdown of motor control in older adults, and
- Use of experimental and theoretical models to better understand changes in human postural control due to aging and musculoskeletal or neurological impairment.
The broad goal of the lab is to further our understanding of the volitional control of compensatory postural responses and contribute to the existing body of fall prevention research in older adults, while working towards the identification of early behavioral and neural biomarkers of neurological disorders for improving the potential for intervention via rehabilitation or treatment.
